SUMMARY:WHO Online Course - Diagnosis and clinical management of dengue
DESCRIPTION:INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE\nDengue is a viral infectious disease and represents one of the main reasons for medical consultation in health units in the countries and territories of the Americas. Recognizing and clinically diagnosing the disease early and offering timely and appropriate treatment can mean the difference between life and death for those suffering from the disease. For this reason\, it is necessary that the medical personnel in charge of caring for cases with suspected dengue are properly trained and sensitized in the management of these patients. \nTo this end\, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO)\, in joint work with the Global Health Consortium\, Robert Stempel School of Public Health and Social Work at Florida International University (FIU )\, have developed the first online course for the diagnosis and clinical management of dengue. \nThis course was developed with a comprehensive vision and is divided into seven modules that include epidemiological information on dengue\, pathophysiology of clinical manifestations\, clinical diagnosis and differential diagnosis\, classification of severity\, recommendations for the management of dengue according to its severity and in patients. with comorbidities. In addition\, the course offers basic aspects on the organization and reorganization of health services during dengue epidemics\, which also plays an important role in saving the lives of patients. \nPURPOSE\nThe purpose of this course is to provide health personnel in charge of caring for suspected cases of dengue with the necessary information to make a timely diagnosis and clinical management\, avoiding progression to severe forms and deaths caused by this disease. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\nAt the end of the course\, participants will be able to: \n\nDemonstrate familiarity with the epidemiology of dengue.\nDescribe the pathophysiological features of dengue.\nRecognize the clinical manifestations of dengue and make a differential clinical diagnosis.\nDefine the case\, recognize the warning signs and classify according to the severity of dengue.\nApply recommendations for the treatment of dengue according to its severity.\nKnow the main aspects of dengue associated with comorbidities and special conditions.\nExplain the need and means for reorganization of health services during a dengue outbreak.\n\nRECIPIENTS\nThe course is aimed at specialist doctors\, general practitioners\, nursing staff\, as well as medical and nursing students\, and all personnel who in one way or another are involved in the care of patients with suspected dengue\, in all areas. levels of health care\, but mainly at the first level of care. \nCOURSE DURATION\nApproximately 20 hours. \nCOURSE MODALITY\nSelf-learning course\, free\, open to the public and without deadlines to complete it. \nCOURSE STRUCTURE \n\nIntroduction Module\nModule 1: Dengue Epidemiology\nModule 2: Pathophysiology of clinical manifestations\nModule 3: Clinical manifestations\nModule 4: Case definition and severity classification\nModule 5: Recommendations for treatment\nModule 6: Dengue associated with comorbidities and special conditions\nModule 7: Organization and reorganization of health services\n\nACCESS TO COURSE: Please access the course by clicking on this link. \nREFERENCES \n\nDengue: guidelines for the care of patients in the Region of the Americas. 2nd ed.\nHealth Information Platform for the Americas (PLISA): dengue
