Founder CCFP Member gets National Award

Dr. Owen James, pictured above,  is one of the founder members of the Caribbean College of Family Physicians(CCFP), and a former  University of the West Indies (UWI) Lecturer in Social and Preventive Medicine. In the 2009 list of Honours by the Goverment of Jamaica, Dr. James was the recipient of  the "Order of Distinction" on National Heroes day, at Kings House, Kingston, Jamaica.

The Investiture was by the Governor General of Jamaica (His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen) The citation was for "dedicated service in the field of Medicine".

Other physicians also featured prominently on this list, as there were over a hundred awadees with varying levels of honour; for example Prof Ed Baugh got the Order of Merit, Drs Mavis Gilmour/Muriel Lowe/Carolyn Gomes got the Order of Jamaica, Ian Boyne got Commander/Order of Distinction. 

The CCFP would like to congratulate Dr. James in particular, and all the physicians for the outstanding service to their communities.
